How to Create a Facebook Cover Photo (For Counselors)
and directing the public to your website. However you’ll also want it polished for the occasion
anyone lands on it. A quick way to give your Page a professional facelift is to design a cover
photo in Canva. They have a ready-made template with the correct dimension already available
to you, for free.
As I talked about in my blog post How to Create a Facebook Business Page (For Counselors), when you design your cover photo you can opt to use a logo. If you don't have one, the next best thing is to choose an image that describes you and what it's like to be in therapy with you. Are you bookish and smart? Maybe you'll add a photo of books to your cover photo. If you use metaphor frequently, you might chose a picture that represents that. For today's demonstration I am going to go with the books-on-a shelf design.
After choosing your favorite image, set it as the background for the template. To do this, right click on the image and select Set Image As Background as shown in the figure below.
I like to put a little bit of background color beneath my text. It helps everything pop and makes it easier to read the text. To do this, select Elements and type in the element you are searching for. In this case, I wanted a rectangle. To further define your search, select from the list just under the search box. I chose Graphics for my purposes. Simply click on the element you want and it will appear in your template.
To change the color of your element. Click on the square of color in the top left hand corner of your dashboard. A menu of color options and suggestions will appear to the left.
To make your shape bigger you can click and drag one corner. You really can't change the shape of the element. For example, if you wanted to make this long skinny rectangle more stout, you would not be able to do that. Instead you would need to search for a rectangle in the elements section that was already the basic shape you want.
Next, add your text by clicking on the Text icon and selecting from the Default Text Styles menu. The text box will insert randomly in your template. You can move it around by clicking on the perpendicular arrows and dragging the text to where you want it to be.
To change the font and size of your text please see the figure below.
There you have it, folks. A ready to go professional cover photo for your Facebook Business Page.
If you don't want to use your business name on your cover photo because it is already listed as your Facebook Business Page name, you might consider adding an inspiring quote or slogan instead. See below for an example. Note how I used a different shape rectangle. I had to go grab it from the elements menu.
